What makes this particular issue stand out from its predecessors is that the companies, organizations, and content in this edition have been curated by two internationally-renowned experts in purpose and wellbeing: Dr. Victoria Hurth and Professor Lorenzo Fioramonti. The “spark” of this issue began almost a year prior to this issue going to press, when I attended an event organized by the Canadian Purpose Economy Project (an organization also featured in this issue) in Vancouver, British Columbia. It was there that I met Dr. Hurth and was profoundly inspired by her clear and compelling three-level framework on sustainability — an adaptation of the Daly Triangle that elegantly summarizes where we are today in relation to long-term wellbeing for all, where we need to get to, and how to envision getting there. It was simply too good to not share. In the months that followed, we have been fortunate to work together with Dr. Hurth a few times, including at the Summit on Responsible Investment, hosted by the Canadian Securities Exchange, where she was a keynote speaker and, ultimately, to the collaboration that shaped this special issue. Together with Professor Fioramonti, they have enriched this edition with their thoughtful perspectives on the Wellbeing Economy. As Editor, I strongly encourage our readers to dive into and share all of the stories featured in this issue. This edition offers a beautiful panorama of the three-level shift of the market economy in action, illustrated by the nine purpose-driven organizations from different regions of the world, all demonstrating that integrating long-term wellbeing for all (sus- tainability) into their organizational worldview is possible. That said, if time is a constraint, please ensure you read “Making Sustainability Real” and “A Practical Revolution,” both pieces by Dr. Hurth and Professor Fioramonti. Combined, these articles bring into hyperfocus the perils of maintaining a “business as usual” approach and offer the clearest arguments in favour of pursuing a Wellbeing Economy. I cannot thank Dr. Victoria Hurth and Professor Lorenzo Fioramonti enough for sharing generously in their work, wisdom, and efforts to convene the changemakers featured in this issue. Also, I have to express my deep gratitude for all the contributors to and readers of this issue for leaning into the possibility of a Wellbeing Economy. Finally, I would encourage readers to carry forward the spark that set this edition in motion. Business as usual is not a viable option, and the faster and farther these stories and ideas showcasing a better alternative travel through social and individual networks, the sooner we can accelerate our collective trajectory toward long-term wellbeing for all people and planet.
